I have lived in Bath my whole life and met my wife Gill in 1993 when I was 17, we now have beautiful twin daughters ( Chloe & Nicole ) and Coco the dog.
My life in optics began in 1993 when I enrolled onto the Dispensing Optics course, since then I have been fortunate to study and work in all areas of spectacle Dispensing, Manufacturing and Glazing. This has given me invaluable insight into how different frame and lens combinations affect the end result for patients in terms of comfort, performance and aesthetically. My passion now is to ensure that we as a team at Dyer & Scott help our patients to achieve their visual goals and produce the best pair of spectacles we can.Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching sports and walking the Dog.
I trained as a Dispensing Optician in London and after working there for a while returned to Bristol to join the family business. Soon after this Rob Scott joined the practice and together we grew Dyer & Scott from two part time practices to the busy full time practices of today.
After 42 years I am still actively involved in the business and continue to take a keen interest in the latest optical developments including a special interest in Myopia Control and the Personalised Lenses.
When not working you might spot me cycling, swimming or running . I have completed many marathons and triathlons of all distances and I still enjoy competing today.
Originally from Northern Ireland, I studied at Cardiff University, qualifying as an Optometrist in1994.
Before joining Dyer and Scott in 2018, I was a Partner in a regional group of 20 optical practices.
Passionate about Contact Lenses I have experience in the use of a wide range of contact lenses from daily disposable lenses, lenses to correct astigmatism, multifocals, Gas Permeable lenses and Orthokeratology (OrthoK).Experienced with eyecare relating to the ageing eye, is accredited through LOCSU for post operative Cataract care and Glaucoma referral refinement.Paul met his wife Catherine at university who also works as an optometrist.

Allannah Gaffney
Optometrist
I studied at Cardiff University and qualified as an Optometrist in 2008. I started my career in an Independent practice, before returning to Cardiff to undertake my PhD, specialising in Age-related Macular Degeneration, which I was awarded in 2012. I have worked with Dyer and Scott since 2013 and love the family focussed ethos of the practices. Age-Related Macular Degeneration remains a key interest of mine, as well as the management of emergent myopia in children. I am also accredited to provide post-operative cataract care. I live locally with my husband (also an Optometrist!) and two daughters. I enjoy reading, swimming and travelling, although don’t manage any of those nearly enough!
Becky Barton

I studied Dispensing Optics at Anglia Ruskin before continuing my education at UWE, where I pursued Optometry. I’ve recently completed a Master’s Certificate in Medical Retina and have plans to further my qualifications in the future. I was proud to join my family's business in October 2024 following in my grandfathers and uncles footsteps. Outside of work and study, I enjoy staying busy by exploring new hobbies, traveling to new places, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Ellen Morris
Optometrist
I studied at Cardiff University and completed my Optometry qualifications in Bristol. In 1999, I joined Dyer and Scott Opticians. I enjoy being part of an independent practice, working in both the Clifton and Portishead branches. In addition to eye examinations and contact lens fitting, I have a keen interest in myopia management. I am accredited for post operative cataract examinations, and I have also completed Glaucoma courses for referral refinement and ocular hypertension monitoring.
John Hall
Practice Manager Portishead, Dispensing Optician
I joined Dyer & Scott in December 2022 having managed an opticians in Bath for 24 years. I qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1993 and have over 35 years experience in the industry. I have a wide range of skills & experience in management, dispensing and lab manufacture, assembling spectacles and repairing them in addition to a keen interest in modern spectacle lens design. Outside of work, I enjoy cycling (when motivated!!) and spending time with my wife & daughter.
